I Conquered: Woronora Heights

Occasionally, Sydney chooses to punish me for no discernible reason. Woronora Heights is one such example of that.

Woronora Heights

Wrapping up from my previous suburb of Woronora, I ended my last post at the bottom of a tall hill in the bush. I began the ascent in order to enter Woronora Heights.

According to Google, this 550m street goes up 43m in elevation. I don't know if that's a lot, as hills go, but it sure felt like it.

I eventually hit the crest, and the street started to flatten out,

before landing me into suburban Woronora Heights.

I wish I could say that the hill ended once I was in the residential bit. It didn't.

Look at these ridiculous driveways.

So it turns out that Woronora Heights is a suburb full of large and relatively modern homes on an obnoxiously large hill.

Some of the houses have had to adapt to the local conditions.

This suburb is ridiculous. I did not stop climbing on my entire foray into the suburb.

My calves.

Eventually, salvation presented itself to me in the form of the local shops. There must be somewhere to sit down, right?

I continued climbing past the IGA and found the suburb's local recreational area in the form of a skate park,

football club (dat gradient),

and ovals. With a game going on, this was the perfect spot to sit, watch a little bit of amateur soccer, apologise to my legs, and check the bus times for my bus into the next suburb.

From here, I made my way to the bus stop which is just outside of the shops.

Before the bus could arrive, a friendly local offered me a ride to the next suburb. Now, my mum always told me never to accept rides from strangers, but in the era of Uber, who can say no to a free ride?

Thanks for the lift Damo!

Woronora Heights: Trust me, it's not just a name.
