Hello!
Blacktown. The Best Daytrip from Sydney?
A friend of mine recently shared with me an incredible video from the late nineties. It's a video which aims to sell the city of Blacktown to travellers visiting Sydney, making the lofty claim that Blacktown is the b
est day trip out of Sydney. You can watch the original video on Blacktown Memories:
https://blacktownmemories.recollect.net.au/nodes/view/749.
While other day trips out of Sydney include the picturesque Blue Mountains, perfect beaches to our city's north and south, and even Australia's capital, these folks are clearly confident that Blacktown's got something special to offer. As a blog which celebrates Sydney's underdogs, what better way to celebrate my 2 year anniversary than to see if Blacktown's marketing department's claims hold up in 2020.
Watch here:
Suburbs Featured:
Blacktown
Blacktown is the "capital suburb" of Blacktown. In the video the only location mentioned in Blacktown itself is Blacktown Workers Club.
Doonside
In Doonside, two of Blacktown city's best attractions, Nurragingy Reserve and Featherdale Wildlife Park, were featured in the video.
Bungaribee
Bungaribee is home to the new Sydney Zoo (presumably named so to confuse tourists into buying tickets online, thinking they're going to Taronga), as well as some of the Western Sydney Parklands.
Glenwood
Parklea Markets are actually in Glenwood, and not Parklea. I also filmed the "temple scene" outside of the beautiful Gurdwara Sahib Glenwood.
Rooty Hill
In Rooty Hill, the video took us to Rooty Hill RSL, Blacktown International Sportspark, and, of course, Rooty Hill... Hill.
Prospect
Prospect actually featured a fair number of attractions in the video. We've got the lovely Prospect Reservoir, Raging Waters, and the Drive-in Cinema, as well as the horse.
Eastern Creek
Finally, in Eastern Creek, I checked out Wonderland and Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly known as Eastern Creek Raceway).
I was meant to take some pictures on my visit, but I got carried away with the filming and forgot. whoops. Here's a photo from the suburb so I can consider it "completed" because really, we've seen everything there is to see in Eastern Creek.
Thanks for dropping by.
If you're not already, you may want to consider subscribing to this blog via

Video is too scared to tour around the actual Blacktown 'CBD', which is absolutely hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWonderland Drive?
RIP Wonderland.
Blacktown CBD will be featured in the actual Blacktown post next week :)
DeleteI watched this with my wife (who is born and raised in Western Sydney). I cannot tell you how excited she got to hear that your Doonside article is coming soon. There was... fist pumping. Thank you. Love your work.
