Birds and Bible: Norwest

As we enter another week of lockdown, writing these is begining to feel like Groundhog Day.

It's also pretty clear there won't be an August anniversary special with me traversing the land to visit your votes. I'll go to these places after lockdown, I promise!

Norwest

Norwest is actually a super new suburb, only declaring independence in 2018 along with North Kellyville after the great Hills Civil War. Unlike North Kellyville however, Norwest already had some things inside it before it seceded.

I got in by car from my previous suburb of Bella Vista,

and immediately stopped to look at birds eating the floor.

It turns out Norwest's all about birds, from cockatoos, to ducks, to mynas, to those blue walking guys with the red beaks.

Lorrikeets too.

I suppose this is due to the fairly pleasant lake and generous amount of trees that are here.

After I finished looking at birds (I do like birds),

I carried on to my next point of interest.

Norwest is perhaps best known as the HQ of megachurch Hillsong.

Park in the stadium-sized carpark and you can look at this chapel,

or this convention centre.

Megachurches never sit quite right with me, so instead here's their lawn lest I say some things that upset people. I don't know why there looks to be tyre marks on it - I can't imagine someone was popping skids here.

They also have birds eating the floor too, which we've learned I always like. I learned yesterday that these fake cockatoos are called corellas, so that's something.

Across the road from here is Norwest's metro station. I have no additional comment about this.

Surprisingly, what I do have a comment on is the other thing across the road, Norwest's shopping centre.

Well sort of. I actually had to pass through the shops to get where I was trying to go.

On the way though, I did find the best-named Kebab shop in all of Australia [citation needed],

and a geniune pretzel plant. These are very rare.

But exit out of the back of the shops and you get to this quite-nice outdoor space,

with a surprising lake,

and plenty of excellent ducks.

Resisting the urge to pull out my reel,

I figured it was time to head back.

And thats where I called it a day.

Norwest: A small, bird-heavy place. Like South Sudan, I wish it luck as it faces the challenges of a fresh independence.
