An attempt to visit every suburb in Sydney.

Still Warm: Gables

Remember in the old days, how when you'd use a street directory to navigate, you'd occasionally have to go somewhere newer than the street directory? Well this next suburb is so new that even Google Maps doesn't know it exists.

Gables

Out in outer Northwest Sydney is Box Hill, my previous suburb. Well in 2020, they sliced an entire new suburb out of the place and named it Gables.

Despite the below sign, the official suburb name doesn't have a "the" in it.

Being a new suburb, it's got new houses.

On one side of the road anyway.

On the other side? Well, it's a new suburb.

Perhaps ironically, the fact that this suburb isn't done yet makes it far more pleasant than other new suburbs.

But it also helps that for the houses that they have built here, they haven't glued them all together.

I headed through the half-fields half-suburbia,

past the unfinished houses,

and to the amusingly named Slidey Park.

This is primarily a playground,

with some pretty sweet toys,

that I headed on through.

When you're in these new suburbs, there often isn't much to see, but apparently a town centre was a mere 1.08km away, so that seemed like a logical place to head.

This meant traversing a very nice path,

with some Christmasy benches,

pleasant surroundings,

and an unfinished bridge.

750m to go.

Oh.

While the backyard may never end, the footpath does. The town centre doesn't exist yet.

As such, it was a sad 400m walk back.

At least I got to go by these pleasingly technicolour garages.

And their similarly styled fronts.

One more path,

and one bridge,

landed me back in Slidey Park.

Fake news.

Having seen what there was to see in the grand lands of Gables, it was time to head off. The car happened to be parked by this abandoned panda.

Oh, and on the way out, I passed this pine tree farm still within the suburbs bounds. How about that.

Gables: Probably my favourite of the brand new burbs. Possibly because it's only half finished.
